Does anyone have a 45 of April Wine - Bad Side Of The Moon? Want to know
its actual timing. US 45 label time 3:00, CAD 45 label time 3:22. The CAD LP
"On Record" fades at about 3:25. Don't know the US "April Wine" LP timing.
Many CDs fade at about 3:12, and are not simply an early fade - they are
different starting at the 2:42 point (heavier drums). Also wonder if the US 45
was stereo or mono.

So great that this popular CAD band had hits with two covers in 1972, one from
Elton John!

David,

I don't own the 45 but I found this on YouTube. Not sure if
it's an authentic 45 dub or not. The quality isn't the
greatest.

Yeah, I always check out YouTube to see if a 45 is playing and found that one -
"Good Quality!"...ha! I'm not sure if it's a 45 either, but it certainly sounds bad
enough to be!

My Big Tree pressing of 'Bad Side Of The Moon' was so bad (IMHO), that when it came out on the
'B' side of 'You Could Have Been A Lady' on Big Tree 15030, I made sure the reissue was the
same as the original, I replaced it. Both were mono. The timing says 2:59 and runs 2:58.6. The
reissue is so much cleaner. I don't know if that helps. -Bill.

Bill, yes, it helps as you've confirmed the US 45 timing as being close enough
to the label printed time of 3:00. Now, does it simply fade out sooner than
either of the longer versions or is it an edit? Are you able to dub your 45?
thanks.

David, I never had the LP of April Wine, so, is my 45 RPM single a fade, or is it an edit?
Thanks. -Bill.

Bill, with your dub I was able to confirm my findings from my first post above,
that the 45 is different from the LP starting at about 2:42 (it has extra drums).
A stereo mix of the 45 is on 1979 LP "Greatest Hits" and fades later - this
version has turned up on CD. There was a stereo/mono promo, but I've never
heard the stereo side - timing same as commercial 45. On the LP "On Record",
the song has a strange, "spooky" coda that starts before "Bad Side Of The
Moon" completely fades out at about 3:25 - I assume the US "April Wine"
LP might be the same?

One of the reasons I made sure I had a clean copy of 'Bad Side of the Moon', is
because a customer in my record shop told me that the single was a different take
than the LP. I wasn't going to take the chance he was wrong. -Bill.

I don't believe it's a different take, just a different edit and mix and a bit faster.

Sounds like the shorter length stereo is the proper mix, so
do you happen to know the beginning and ending fade points?
