anyone know where i can find the song "if" by janet jackson WITHOUT the spoken words that are carried over from the track before from her ablum "janet"....all the cd singles that have been issued.....ie:the usa commercial, the uk commercial single, the usa promo single & the usa maxi single all DO NOT contain the lp version with the spoken words edited out.....a few of the cd singles contain the radio edit version of the song but the version that is on the commercial cassingle is the lp version (4:41) with the intro words (actually words from the previous track carried over) edited out........i've been looking for years with zero success

Yeah, I've been looking since the song came out, Ed, and I've never found it on CD. I'm pretty sure even the Japanese CD3 used the radio edit. Only thing to do is get you some cheap editing software and splice the beginning from the radio edit onto the LP version. It should sound perfect. I've been meaning to do that for a while... think I'll do it right now!

I use Magix Audio Cleaning Lab, and I got it for only $9.99! (Though I think it was on clearance -- I have version 1.03.) It's real easy with some practice, but it took me several tries to get the hang of it.
The thing I like most about Magix, though maybe they're all like this, is it's easy to get the edit point in sync because you can load two different tracks at the same time, literally stack them on top of each other visually, so they're playing at the same time. (Which was necessary for me to create my 45 edit of Prince's "Let's Go Crazy.")

my cassingle issued as virgin 12676 contains, on the A-side, a non described version which runs 4:38......this is an edit of the version from the cd "janet"....the lp version contains spoken words from the preceeding song which are present on the intro of "if"...the db should note this and should indicate the version on the cd "janet" is the "lp version"....paul was kind enough to re-create the cassingle version for me years ago....thanks paul!!!

Odd, every digital download copy of "If" from Janet starts with a fade in to the electric guitar and runs 4:32.

After listening to Ed's file, the cassingle version and comparing my version from Janet, the LP version starts at the :06 point of Ed's file.

Ed:
My copy of "If" is from digital download, as I only have the Design Of A Decade, which doesn't include "If."
Pat lists the song as being 4:31 as well, so I would say the CD is missing the first :07, just like digital downloads.

Fortunately, as Brian suggested earlier, the single version of "If" can be easily created by splicing the first :07 of the radio edit onto the beginning of the LP version.
