Nope. Not even going to try. Anytime I've tried to answer that question in the past, and I decide on one song, another would come on the radio and make me go "No, wait a minute..."

No way I could narrow it down to just one for all-time.
However, not too long ago I did make a list of my favorite song by year from 1950-1999. Could probably go into the 2000s, but the pickings start getting pretty slim. Here's the current list (even these could change depending on the day)... 1950 - Goodnight Irene - The Weavers 1951 - Come On-A My House - Rosemary Clooney 1952 - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania - Guy Mitchell 1953 - The Doggie In The Window - Patti Page 1954 - Mr. Sandman - Chordettes 1955 - Sixteen Tons - Tennessee Ernie Ford 1956 - Hound Dog - Elvis Presley 1957 - Wake Up Little Susie - Everly Brothers 1958 - At The Hop - Danny & The Juniors 1959 - Mack The Knife - Bobby Darin 1960 - The Twist - Chubby Checker 1961 - Hit The Road Jack - Ray Charles 1962 - Monster Mash - Bobby "Boris" Pickett 1963 - Louie Louie - Kingsmen 1964 - The House Of The Rising Sun - Animals 1965 - This Diamond Ring - Gary Lewis & The Playboys 1966 - Summer In The City - Lovin' Spoonful 1967 - I'm A Believer - Monkees 1968 - Mrs. Robinson - Simon & Garfunkel 1969 - Time Of The Season - Zombies 1970 - War - Edwin Starr 1971 - Mr. Bojangles - Nitty Gritty Dirt Band 1972 - Heart Of Gold - Neil Young 1973 - Daniel - Elton John 1974 - Tin Man - America 1975 - Miracles - Jefferson Starship 1976 - Disco Lady - Johnnie Taylor 1977 - I Wish - Stevie Wonder 1978 - Baker Street - Gerry Rafferty 1979 - I Need A Lover - John Cougar 1980 - Another Brick In The Wall (Part 2) - Pink Floyd 1981 - Hearts On Fire - Randy Meisner 1982 - Rock This Town - Stray Cats 1983 - The Safety Dance - Men Without Hats 1984 - A Fine Fine Day - Tony Carey 1985 - Jungle Love - Time 1986 - West End Girls - Pet Shop Boys 1987 - (I Just) Died In Your Arms - Cutting Crew 1988 - Electric Blue - Icehouse 1989 - Veronica - Elvis Costello 1990 - Don't Wanna Fall In Love - Jane Child 1991 - Unbelievable - EMF 1992 - Little Miss Can't Be Wrong - Spin Doctors 1993 - What's Up - 4 Non Blondes 1994 - Mr. Jones - Counting Crows 1995 - You Oughta Know - Alanis Morissette 1996 - Salvation - Cranberries 1997 - One Headlight - Wallflowers 1998 - Real World - Matchbox 20 1999 - Steal My Sunshine - Len |

It was July 1967. I discovered there were girls in the neighborhood. And a song on the radio. It had pertinent lyrics (at the time), I liked the instrumentation and production. It had timing changes and a false ending all in a 2 1/2-minute love song. In August it was #1 all over Chicago, anyway. It renewed my interest in 'Pop' Top 40 music. I can't think of anything that has influenced me more, musically. The Cryan Shames - "It Could Be We're In Love (single version)". -Bill.

"I Wish" is my favorite R&B song of the 70s, and one of my favorite songs to play on the keyboard. But I find it's rare for people to know this one by name. Whenever people talk about Stevie Wonder, if you mention "I Wish" they'll stare at you blankly - until you sing the first line of the chorus. |

For me it's probably What's Going On by Marvin Gaye. I've loved that song since I bought my first Marvin CD decades ago.

There's a lot of crap on the radio, but there's only one Crap From The Past.
