Not sure if I ever posted on this before, but I'm assuming an edit was issued of this, since the LP version runs about nine minutes (and the single charted).

Discogs shows a 45 that runs (3:19).

So can the 45 be extracted from the LP?

Doug, I do have a (3:23) version of "Mister Magic" on Volume 2 of a 1996 T/L
(via Sony Special Products) V/A 2-CD set titled "Smooth & Cool" (A-26832,
then R135-36B - in "dual production" cases like this, one stock # is usually
the T/L catalog #, while the other is the Sony Special Products catalog #. ) I
have not analyzed it against my original Kudu 45, but it has the correct 1975
label, catalog # & BB peak correctly shown in the liner notes, and has
licensed the track for this comp from Polygram. All that said, though, it's still
no guarantee that this CD includes the correct 45v. Nonetheless, I have just
forwarded this file out to you for analysis, as I also wonder if what's on here
was an edit of the LPv, just an early fade, or neither.

Thanks, Jim! The file you forwarded me is an edit (the LP version opens with an organ riff with no percussion--the edit starts at
about the (:19) mark of the LP).

If you get a chance to do an A/B with your 45, let me know.

Thanks to Jim for sending me a dub of his 45. The T-L file he has is not the correct 45 version as they made at least one editing error. Am now scurrying to see if
I can replicate the edit properly (and see if there are others).

ETA: Tough edit to make, just because the song kind of rambles. Never did check whether the T-L file had more than one error--the editing error that was made at
about the (0:27) mark was enough for me.
