While this song only peaked at #59 (almost made it to #49), it's still an interesting song.
1) Is the 45 version the same as the lp? 2) If so, given the lengthy "cowbell section" in the middle, was a shorter edit promo ever produced? 3) If not, would it perhaps have been a bigger TOP 40 hit with one available? |

I didn't recognize the song by its title; however, I instantly knew it after playing it on YouTube. I'm actually quite surprised the song wasn't a chart hit, although I'm positive I've heard it on classic rock radio several times.

The 45 is mono and runs 3:03. I seem to recall that the 45 is a different mix.

The 45 version of "Walk Away" made it to CD. Anyone seen the 3:03 version of "Funk #49" on CD?

The "Funk #49" DJ and stock 45s were the same, utilizing a dedicated mono mix, with a less-prominent bass line than on the LP mix. The 45 was edited and sped up quite noticeably.
It was also cut very hot. My vinyl DJ and styrene stock copies were both pressed by Monarch, although the stampers were not the same. The DJ 45 was cut so hot that there wasn't even enough room left in the deadwax area for the Monarch logo! That was relegated to "Thanks" on the B-side. There was barely enough room for the logo on the stock A-side. That flaming guitar intro sounded positively riveting on the AM rockers. |

Yes, and there were a lot of phonos which didn't track this one without skipping. Even many broadcast turntables and tonearms had issues with it.

Is there an echo in here? ;) No. It was likely tossed along with all those other ABC and Dunhill mono masters. |
