   OK, not a top-40 hit (didn't chart in its first release in 1980, peaked at #62 on BILLBOARD in its 1982 rerelease).  Anyone know whether the 45 and LP versions are different in any way?

	Saw a 45 on ebay with a listed time of 3:15. My copy from The Best Of The Waitresses runs 3:12. Unless there's a mix difference, I think they are the same.

	I found just two different analog transfers for the song. One is on Rhino's Just Can't Get Enough Vol. 5 (1994). It sounds OK there to my ears. The other seems to be the preferred one. It's on *Polydor's The Best Of The Waitresses* (1990)*, where it's mastered by Dennis Drake. Use this rule of thumb: Dennis Drake + lowest generation source tapes = best possible sound. And even though it runs a few seconds shorter than the Rhino disc, it seems to be the go-to mastering for this track. The same analog transfer is used for: Sony's Funky But Chic* (1994) Universal's Retro Lunchbox Squeeze The Cheeze (1997; digitally exactly 0.56 dB quieter) Time-Life's 2-CD Modern Rock Vol. 1 1982-1983 (1999; differently EQ'd digital clone, possibly with some added compression?) 	Is it just me, or is this song basically in mono? When I cut out the center channel it seems like I'm left with a little reverb and maybe a gangly guitar... back to original stereo and everything sounds centered. I assume the original vinyl was the same way?

	Yes Gene. it's always been that way. It's technically stereo, but everything is mixed so close to the center it's hard to tell. I once tried to widen it using a stereo expander but the result sounded weird - it was only enough to prove it was stereo but not good enough to actually listen to.

	MMathews I had the same experience... not really playable. :-) Thanks for the reply! In my research, I found it interesting the songs The Waitresses sang were from a woman's perspective, but the author was a man. Nothing wrong with that, just interesting he was so able to capture a female's perspective in songs like this one and "Christmas Wrapping."
