While it's not noted in the database, the promo 45 of "Hurricane (Part 1)" contains a bleep over the "s" word. The stock 45 version leaves the word uncensored. Perhaps Pat can add this info to the already well detailed song notes.

Actual run times for both the stock & promo versions (Part 1) are just a fraction of a second under (3:42). There are no edits on Part 1; it just starts fading at the (3:35) mark.

I recreated the censored promo 45 today, even borrowing the 'beep' from the promo 45! :)

The beep is placed over the 's' word, if you wish to censor it, with the fade beginning after the cymbal crash at 3:36, fading quickly from 3:37-3:42, as Aaron mentioned above.

Probably wasn't "Dialogue." The 45 version is an edit of the LP version (not merely a fade). The version on Chicago's Greatest Hits, Volume 2 CD wasn't the 45 (the 45 is gettable on a couple of the Rhino releases).

Not to hijack this thread, but what's the story on the extremely cold ending on this? The song ends in mid-word ("we can make it hap").

Possibly continuing the first hijack of this thread...

Would Usher's "Confessions, part two" count?

my friend John Gallagher was kind enough to forward me his custom edit of part 1 of "hurricane" and it matches my commercial 45 perfectly......it DOES contain the word "shit" at the 1:53 mark of the song...... my commercial 45 issued as columbia 10245 states a run time on the A-side label as 3:45 but actually runs 3:44.......in addition the matrix number of the A-side is zss-160791-2 while the B-side states "hurricane (part II)" with a run time of 4:57 and a matrix number of zss-160782-2....so using the standard matrix rule the A-side would be part 1.....

And using the standard promo 45 rule, the A-side would also be... the same! :)    Here are the promo scans Gary Mack mentioned earlier in the thread:

The two stereo/mono promo 45 "Part 1" sides below are from two pressings from Columbia's Terre Haute plant, the left copy styrene, and the right, vinyl, which CTH had just begun to utilize for some promo singles (although the quality was definitely not up to the Santa Maria plant standards. I often had to de-horn CTH vinyl 45s by manually playing them backwards to clear out the grooves.)

The small-hole 33 1/3, 7-inch stereo/mono full version reservice, utilizing the same catalog number (a vinyl Terre Haute pressing, fortunately; styrene 33 1/3 7-inchers typically developed cue-burn on their first playing.) The mono side matrix number is ZLP 160777-2.

This 7-inch configuration presented a problem for stations whose turntables had a built-in 45 adapter, as the small hole prevented the record from fitting into the bowl of the turntable, leaving it high and dry and tough to play without first putting another large-hole 45 or an LP underneath it.

The 2020 Japanese Singles Collection recently released on CD includes the commercial 45 of "Hurricane (Part 1)" with no beep included plus the quick fade.

Just heard the full length version on WMMR, I tuned in in progress so I don't
know if the S word was censored, but the N word was. I guess this was an in
house edit. They used to play it uncensored.

It's the 47th anniversary of "Desire" which is why it was played.
