So upon checking my resources this track appears lossy. The source I apparently have is from the CD promo. Track 2 is not lossy. But the radio edit is.

It clearly spek's under 20

I always thought the first few "lossy" mastered tracks occurred in 1997 with Whitney Houston ie . I Believe In You and Me and Step by Step.

Aaron would it be too much trouble if you have this cd promo to pull it and see if it actually is lossy. Promo only from that time period is also lossy and appears to be the same identical file.

If it is lossy I wonder if it was also mastered that way on the 12''

If anyone happens to know a source for the lossless file kindly let me know. Thanks!

That's how it is on the promo CD single. Technically, it's not "lossy." Mp3/lossy compression was not really a thing in 1995. It's true that the frequencies above 16kHz are rolled off, and I'm guessing that has to do with some sort of equipment that was used in mastering for this track, at least on the promo CD. It's very possible that a different CD source with the Radio Edit does not have this issue, but I don't have it on any other discs.

Could the radio edit be recreated from track 2?

No, they have different intros and endings. The bulk of the song appears to be the same mix, though.

The radio edit is available on RPM Top Hits disc T312, Track 13, but it may be from the same lossy promo CD single originally. I no longer have that Top Hits disc in my library.

TM has the radio edit on several of their discs, Golddisc 2314N, HitDiscA     134A and HitDisc UK 141E, but it may be from the same promo CD single originally.

The version on TM Century's HitDisc 134A 1996-02-09, Promo Only Mainstream Radio 1996-02, and Mobile Beat Best Of Dance 14 are all volume-adjusted digital clones of the promo CD single. All have reduced high-frequency content over about 17 kHz, just like the promo CD single. It's not a hard cutoff like you'd see with an mp3 encoding.

I don't have the Top Hits USA disc. The song appears on the disc that's literally one week before I began my weekly service in 1996.
There's a lot of crap on the radio, but there's only one Crap From The Past.
