Okay, I just downloaded this from the "Essentials" CD, and was really irritated to find that it segues into the songs before and after it. There are no notes regarding this in the database, or any notes regarding a "45 version."
So my question is: Is the true 45 version available on any of the CDs listed in the database? And was the single version this live recording? |

I'm pretty sure the single was the live recording. The Best Of CD version does fade out during the audience applause at the end (and has a very slight fade-in on the opening), so I think it's much closer to the 45 (if not correct).

Both the "Soul Man" and "Rubber Biscuit" singles were live versions.

My version is from a TM Century series, and it fades at the 3:00 mark. Also fades in slightly as Doug mentioned.

My commercial 45 has a listed time of (2:55), but an actual time of (3:02).

Hey Brian, sorry it took so long to get back to you on your question but you are correct, there is a 45 version and an LP version of this song. On the LP version, the audience applause tracks right over the introduction of Soul Man but on the 45, the audience applause is not present on the first two notes of Soul Man and even after the first two notes the applause fades in. So to answer your question, the true 45 version does not appear on any cd in the database.
