I compared the 45 to the version I have on CD (which is the LP version). The mixes didn't seem that different to me. On the LP version, the hi-hats are louder, and on the remix single, some guitars and keyboard are louder (although I was hearing a very compressed version, so some of it could have been due to the compression). And of course, 5 seconds or so were edited out near the end. Can anyone tell me what the major differences are between the remix and the original - that is, if I missed anything? I'll probably buy a lossless version on qobuz. Does anyone know if it's lossless anywhere? Some of these older digital releases that show up on Qobuz, 7 Digital, etc. are actually lossy.

I just purchased the digital single from Qobuz, and it's lossless. Excellent sound quality! It includes both the "New Mix" and "E.T. Version."

Thanks Aaron. Good to know. When I A-B'd the 45 and LP, it didn't seem like a new mix or what is typically thought of as a remix (involving new instruments) - just a few instruments raised and one or a few lowered. (And 5 seconds removed near the end.) Is that truly the case? Or are there some bigger picture elements I'm missing? (This question is for anyone :)

On the opening “Hey!” you can hear obvious echo on the New Mix.
There is no echo on the LP version. That stood out to me right away. |

Thanks. I bought the WAV from qobuz earlier this afternoon when you confirmed it's lossless. This song is one of those cases where I like both mixes :)

Favorite two expressions to live by on this board: "You can't download vinyl" and "Not everything is available on CD."

Yeah, the remix has major echo on the drums. If you can't hear that, you
should get your hearing checked. Reverb galore. |

Didn't the 45 get issued in two different versions?
The 3:36 album version and the 3:26 'NEW MIX' RE-1 remixed and edited version. Or was the first released version also an uncredited different mix? I only own the 'NEW MIX' promo 45. Any help or clarification would be welcome! Andy |

Since the New Mix got significant airplay on MTV, and radio barely touched it, would it be fair to say if a listener from the 80s had heard a version, it was probably the New Mix on the video on MTV rather than the radio?
