There was a brief discussion of the 45 and LP version of this song way back when but I just pulled out the cassette single and compared it to the LP version and other than an early fade on the cassette single, I do not hear any difference between the two. Any input here?

Pat:
Yes, it was eventually determined that the commercial single release of "Bad of the Heart" is indeed just an early fade of the LP. |

What else is interesting about this song is that it was released twice, a couple of years apart. "Bad Of The Heart" was originally released not under singer George LaMond's name but under the moniker Loose Touch. The group also featured George's cousin Joey Kid, who had a solo hit on Atlantic called "Counting The Days" in 1990. It was released as a 12" single on the Ligosa Records label in 1988. It was written and produced by Mark Liggett and Chris Barbosa, the guys who were well known for having produced Shannon's "Let The Music Play" a few years earlier. The first release of "Bad Of The Heart" was a huge hit both in latin dance clubs and on urban radio. But with no album or sizeable follow up hits, Loose Touch faded into obscurity.
Fast forward to 1990. Based on the big underground club success it has had during the 80's, Latin Freestyle finally hits the mainstream. Popular acts such as The Cover Girls, Sweet Sensation, Corina, and Lisette Melendez are all picked up by major labels, and have top 10 or top 40 hits around this time. Columbia Records reissues "Bad Of The Heart" but by George LaMond this time. The single peaks at #25 on the Hot 100. An album is quickly recorded and also released but only the follow up single "Look Into My Eyes" charts, hitting #63 on the Billboard Hot 100 in September of 1990. Edited by Jeff H. |

actually, there was a third charted single from George LaMond's CD - a duet with Brenda K Starr "No Matter What" which hit #49 in January of 1991...

I must admit I have a fondness for this type of music and have records by all of the acts mentioned above. The Cover Girls went from independent label Fever to Capitol, and despite a top 10 single then surprisingly went immediately to Epic. I always wondered what happened to Sweet Senstation - they had a No. 1 hit "If Wishes Came True", and then disappeared. As far as I know, no follow-up was ever recorded. |

Although you're right about no follow-up album (other than the remix project Time To Jam), didn't they release "Love Child" as their follow-up single, or did that come out before "Wishes"? |

Supposedly Sweet Sensation is still out there, touring the oldies circuit where they're still very popular in the Latin community. They have undergone a number of lineup changes since their heyday in the late 80's-early 90's. |
