Pat,
what's the difference between the 45 and LP version? I listened to the versions on "In My Lifetime" (45 version) and "His 12 Greatest Hits (MCA 37252) (LP version) and I find no difference other than the fade difference. |

I just pulled out my 45 of "Soolaimon" and the note placed in the sleeve states that the LP has 7 kettle drum beats starting at 4:11 that are not found on the 45.

thanks, Pat. Only one thing to add, since the kettle drum starts at 4:11 (I notice it now....never having had a long enough version to really notice it before), can we indicate "45 version faded :16 early" for the version on "In My Lifetime" when it fades before the kettle drum mark? I would just say it fades early. cheers!

I just listened to "Soolaimon (African Trilogy II)" on my copy of the Neil Diamond In My Lifetime CD box set (Columbia 65013 and 85665) and indeed the song does completely fade out at the 4:10 mark right before where the kettle drum is supposed to come in. But... we really don't know if this is *supposed* to be the 45 version on the In My Lifetime set since both the 45 and LP versions are identical up until the 4:10 mark, right?
Therefore, shouldn't the accompanying comment in the database for "Soolaimon" on the In My Lifetime set instead indicate: (fades :16 earlier than the 45 version and :22 earlier than the LP version)? |
