I just picked up the newly remastered version of Hard To Find 45s On CD Volume 12 and wanted to let everyone know that it is now available through the Eric Records website. Due to licensing agreements, one of the previous song titles on the original release had to be removed and of course replaced but this remaster has some positive points to consider. First, the song "Nitty Gritty" by Shirley Ellis now features the 45 version in stereo while the previous version had no reverb and was technically just a stereo remix. A number of songs have been equalized to sound better and this time around there was no noise reduction used! Perhaps the most noticeable change deals with the song "One Tin Soldier" by Coven which previously featured the higher charting Warner Brothers version but now includes the lower charting MGM version. This is all that Coven would allow for the remaster. I do like the cleaner sound on the remaster so give this serious thought for purchase.

Mark M - can you chime in on what other differences there are on the remastered version of Vol 12?

Hi all,
Pat pretty much summed it up well (and thanks for the plug...). The main "upgrade" here is no noise reduction was used this time around. Most master sources are the same but some EQ tweaks were applied to most songs. RE: "The Nitty Gritty" .. the previous version was a remix trying to approximate the hit mix. The sound quality was really good, but I found only the original 1963 stereo mix matches the 45 exactly so we swapped it out. And of course Pat explained about "One Tin Soldier". The band would not renew a license (they own it, not Warner). So, since Universal owns the rights to the MGM version we used that instead. Personally, I couldn't care less since I only like the Original Caste version (It's the one my Mamma bought me on a 45 when I was 5yrs old.) But that's just me. That's it. So I guess this remaster will appeal mostly to anyone who hates noise reduction. MM |
