Pat claims that stock copies of this singles with label times of 3:06 all play for 4:26. This is only true of copies pressed in 1972 using 1968 labels. I own a stock copy of the single with a label time of 3:06 that actually plays for 3:13. Just thought I'd toss this one out there, since I just posted the 3:13 version on my Facebook 45 rpm page. You can listen to it here, and I have updated the URL to be certain that the link isn't dead:
Nights in White Satin (3:13, 1968 single edit)

Were the 1968 stock copies 3:06 (3:13 length)? I only have the 1968 promo so I don't know. What this might mean is that "1972 commercial copies all run (4:26)" (adding 1972)
Non Hit 1968 commercial copies run 3:13.

The leftover 1968 45 RPM singles are 4:26 (3:06 length
claimed on label), these were leftover copies from the
track's non hit 1968 release. When re-released, these were
first distributed out of the warehouses, then new 3:06
edited pressings which played that playing time were then
the standard single from then on.
I turn up the good and turn down the bad!

Anyone have the edit points to recreate the shorter version?

The singles that play for 3:13 are 1968 pressings. Leftover labels were used on the 1972 reissues until they ran out, then labels appeared with 4:26 printed on them.
