Hello
I probably need to clarify what I am resarching. I appreciate all your responses, but it seems that I was a bit confused on my request. I have the 45s listed below with a corresponding lossless rip and label for each. What I am trying to research is if there is a song on a CD for the 45. I have broken the data into 3 seperate groups: 1.) Songs that are not on any CD, 2.) songs that are out on a CD but are not the correct 45 timed version, and 3.) songs that have are out on CD with the correct timed 45 version, but I do not own (the respective CD needs to be verified). What I would like to do is confirm my research to see if it is correct. Can any of you please help me? I. Regarding Billy Vaughn, "La Paloma", The stereo vinyl version does run (2:20) and could very well be a stereo rerecording. I do not have the vinyl 45 so I cannot comment on whether this stereo version is a rerecording.
Regarding Larry Williams, all songs in the database in my opinion are the 45 version, just run around :23 longer. |

Hello Pat It is good to meet you. I am a great admirer of your work! You have done an awful lot to help me acquire the correct songs for my collection. I sure appreciate your work and your help! I have acquired the 45s for each of the songs I list as "45 time (x:xx)". I also have the label and a lossless digital version of the song. I know for certainty that Bony Maronie's play time is 2:41 and the La Paloma play time is 2:10. I can send the songs for reference if you want. take care Chris |

Chris, I have the 45 of "Bony Moronie" also and it does indeed run (2:41) as stated on the record label. What I am saying is that if you wish to recreate the 45 length, you simply need to fade any of the current cd appearances (which are longer) at that point and you will have the 45.
If you have an mp3 that you wish to send me of the vinyl 45 of "La Paloma" I would be happy to compare it to the stereo versions that appear on cd to try to determine if they are rerecordings. |

Thank you Pat for this offer. I just need to know how to send the song to you and what format you want. I appreciate the information about Bony Maronie. I will take a look at both the CD and 45 to see if I can edit down the CD to the 45 version. take care Chris |

Ed, I don't have this particular CD, but the Jasmine label is one of those "public domain" labels that only issue recordings that are more than 50 years old and are therefore in the public domain in the UK, Canada, and many other countries. Since these recordings must be more than 50 years old, it's a pretty good bet that they are not re-recordings. But because these tracks do not need to be licensed from the various labels, the companies that issue these types of CDs do not receive tapes from the labels and must master the CDs from whatever sources they can find. I would therefore guess that most, if not all, of these tracks are mastered from vinyl.
The good news is that the technological advances in mastering CDs from vinyl have been so great over the last few years that the last few Jasmine CDs I've bought sound superb. You can barely tell they're mastered from vinyl. |
