Does anyone have this 45 Promo of Al Jarreau - After All? https://www.discogs.com/release/12276716-Al-Jarreau-After-All
It's listed as a 3:39 runtime. There's other promos that list it as 3:59. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Mike

Yes, it's the single length, slightly faster, and with the instrumental intro removed. The 3:59 listed promo is the same as the stock 45 and really runs 4:07. This is an early fade of the LP length. The promo is sped up by about 1% and trims off the first :17. It begins with the vocal "there."

The Very Best Of has a version listed as the single version yet only runs 3:59 and starts with the instrumental beginning. Is this faded 8 seconds too early?

Thanks to a video on YouTube from our friend Bob Moke, the 45 Prof, the 3:59 version on the Very Best Of fades too early. The compilers must have thought the listed time on the 45 was the actual run time.

This same thing happened on J. Geils Band "Anthology". There was a 6-second discrepancy on the 45 label of "Where Did Our Love Go" so Bill Ingot faded the song 6-seconds early, eliminating a section of the fade that's unique to the recording. Any big fan of the recording would notice it's missing, and unfortunately, there's been no other time this song was released on CD with its full length. As for "After All", I listened to a lot of AC & pop radio back then, and I never heard this played on the radio with no instrumental intro. Edited by EdisonLite - 2 hours 29 minutes ago at 11:12am |
