In August last year, Chrysalis released digital EPs for the UK "Dancing with Myself/Ugly Rash" 7" single and the EP. The Long Version from the Don't Stop EP and the Uptown Mix from Vital Idol are also included, leaving the UK Gen X 12" version (4:10) as the only mix currently unavailable digitally.

Trying to make sense of what's out there. I hope I got this right:

Original mix – has loud guitar & bass:
• 3:30 7" version, from Gen X "Dancing with Myself" UK 45 (1980)
• 4:10 12" version, from Gen X "Dancing with Myself" UK 12" (1980)
• 3:46 LP version, from Gen X ''Kiss Me Deadly'' album (1981)

Remix – has no tambourine:
• 3:20 7" version, from Gen X 4 EP on UK/EU 7" (1981)
• 6:05 Extended Version, from Gen X 4 EP on UK/EU 12" (1981)
• 4:47 Long Version (edit of the Extended Version), from Billy Idol Don't Stop EP on US 12" (1981)

The 3:20 version debuted in the US [edit:] on promo & retail 45 in 1981 (CHS 2488), and the extended version was issued on a promo 12" (CHS-27-PDJ).

The 1983 US reissue was on 45 only and had the 3:20 version.

The 1983 UK/EU reissue was on 45 and 12", containing the Long Version and Extended Version, respectively.

If I'm not mistaken, the 5:59 "Uptown Mix" is the Vital Idol (1985) name for the Extended Version.

There was a commercial release of the Dancing With Myself 7" in 1981 on Chrysalis 2488. I've got it....

The 1980 UK 45 with catalog number CHS 2444 has the LP mix. The 1983 US 45 uses the remix (Chrysalis 42723). I'm not 100% positive which version is on the 1981 US 45.

Whoops, some weird groupings of releases in Discogs led me to believe there was no 1981 US 45, but you're right, there was. If all 3:19/3:20 versions are the same then it's the remix.

I've edited my comment above, as well as info on Wikipedia.

As for the 1980 non-remix version, as I mentioned, the version on the UK 45 is shorter than the one on the LP. It's the same source mix, and it's identical to the LP version until near the end. The last 30 seconds of the LP version is unique, and I don't think it is possible to derive the UK 45 version from it.

Thanks for the clarification and summary. I should’ve said “original” and not “LP” when referring to the 1980 UK 45. I have a dub of it on my hard drive but didn’t compare it to the LP version.
