The 3:50 version is just an early fade of the LP version, and can be recreated with a 24-beat fade from 3:33.0-3:48.0. (Times from CD
Forever Your Girl.)

Just confirming for anyone who may know? Is the 3:50 dj edit an early fade of the LP version or is the intro shortened as Hykker mentioned?

My copy is from Greatest Hits and runs 3:48. Ron is
usually pretty good at determining whether a song is an
edit or an early fade. I'd go with the DJ edit being an
early fade.

I stand corrected. Hykker is right. The 4:11 version has
Paula's vocal coming in at :20 in. The DJ edit has her
vocal starting at :10 in.

Guess the DJ edit will need to be looked at more closely.

And just to clarify further, the 3:50 version that Ron referred to earlier is
the UK copy found on the Now V/A comps. Based on this info, there
appears to be two different 3:50 versions: the US promo edit and the
UK early fade.

Interesting that this 3:50 edit which was released on
7" promo vinyl wasn't used for the promo CD (by the
way, it was used for the video as well and can be
easily recreated using the album version).

Anybody remember hearing one over the other on the
radio?

I only ever heard this edit on the video. I knew that there was a promo edit, but never heard it on-air.

Regarding Paula Abdul's "Straight Up", the database does not currently account for the 1-track promo CD single release on Virgin PRCD2539 that Jim reported earlier in this message thread. I don't have a copy of it myself; however, my notes indicate that the track's actual run time is 4:10 (the CD label states a time of 4:11 with no version description listed) and is identical to both the single and album version. It's been years since I wrote down this info and can't recall offhand how I confirmed it (presumably from another forum member or an audio rip that had been uploaded on YouTube at one time?). Thus, if anyone can corroborate the promo CD single's run time for "Straight Up", please let us know so that we can incorporate this into the song's title notes.

The printed time of the promo CD is 4:11, but the actual time is 4:10.

Database updated.
