For anyone who did not know, the song has a US radio edit of 3:10. I recently was able to obtain the digital copy via purchase. Another one I never knew existed until now. The LP version if I recall is the 45.

Curiously, what was edited out to create the 3:10
version? My promo (Atlantic PR 632) shows one side as the LP version, the other as "new mix", both with a listed time of 4:10. Deadwax info on the "LP version" ST-PR 46224-2 (the P could also be an A, but I figure it's a P since that's what's printed on the label) "New Mix" deadwax; STPR-46727-2 Both have a little squiggle that kind of looks like a flower after the ID#. Don't have a commercial copy to compare. Since this is not a standard Atlantic catalog #, I'm guessing this was an advance release. Edited by Hykker |

I think this is the edit in question:
https://youtu.be/OJc5wcKYXik It seems like one edit around the 2:35 mark. Also i’m not sure if it’s the album mix or the jack white remix...there is echo on her vocals in the intro. I’d like to know if anyone remembers hearing this edit on the radio? I do in fact remember an echo on the intro when i heard the song on radio stations in NY in the 80s but i could also be crazy...... Edited by Michaeldila |

The video on YouTube says the expanded edition of Self Control is the source, yet there is no short edit on the expanded track list. This must be something custom. |

Richie has proved me wrong lol. Looks like the edit was
included in the expanded edition. Perhaps, this release should be added to the DB. I remember playing the song on the radio in 1984 but have absolutely no recollection whether it was the 4:08 version or 3:10. |

Yes, it was included in the Expanded Edition. That's why I was in shock when I saw a 3:10 version available. I was already looking for the Jack White mix for the last few years (always a big Laura Branigan fan). The 3:10 is missing the instrumental that starts at about 1:55 and goes through 2:11 on the 45 version. The song picks up at "life is a dream the lucky one" with the electronic voice at 3:09 with the lyrics on the 45 version. So if you want to recreate that is what I hear is missing. No I never heard this edit either, but its clear it exists. I thought oh this is probably a UK edit and was shocked when discogs actually has a 45 in the US that has this edit. The database should be updated to reflect this. Edited by PopArchivist |

The Discogs listing is probably a typo. The images show a printed time
of 4:10, not 3:10. There is also not a note documenting any run time discrepancies. |

Also, it looks like that run time of 3:10 has been listed on Discogs since
the release was first submitted 15 years ago. |

It's not a typo. The 3:10 is included on Laura Branigan's Expanded Edition. It also has a discogs listing. I was able to get it digitally, but for anyone who wants it, you can order the disc https://www.cherryred.co.uk/product/laura-branigan-self-cont rol-2cd-expanded-edition/ Edited by PopArchivist |
