My commercial 45, which is mono, has a listed time of (3:50), but an actual time of (3:47). It has likely been sped up a tad.

I noticed the time for this in the Pop Annual is listed as (4:10) and sure enough, our commercial 45 copy states (4:10), although it actually runs (3:47). Deadwax info is: N-18167-1C.

I also checked the original album version and like Jim's 45 it states (3:50) but actually runs (3:47). |

Paul, just FYI, my commercial 45's deadwax info is "N-18167-1B." Thanks for the additional details, my friend.

my commercial 45 issued as warner 7417 of the song "express yourself" by charles wright has a different intro than the cd version i have from the "soul hits-vol 3".....the vinyl 45 starts the song with a cymbal crash while the cd version does not have it.....pat....do any of the cd versions in the db have the cymbal crash at the beginning?....if not the db should be updated to specify "45 version" or "lp version"....

The mono version on Can You Dig It starts with a cymbal hit, if that's what you mean.

I just compared the stereo version to the mono, and it's quite different. Aside from the opening cymbal that Ed mentioned, there are a couple other notable differences:

  - tambourine starts at the very beginning of the stereo version, but it doesn't come in until 0:37 of the mono - there is lots of added reverb to the vocals and horns of the stereo version Perhaps it's just because I'm used to hearing the mono, but I think the stereo version is weak. The mix is too wide and lacks punch. |

There an expanded and remastered version of the Express

Yourself album on Qobuz. It included a mono single version of Express Yourself and runs 3:48. |

The mono single mix of Charles Wright's and the Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band's "Express Yourself" has only appeared on one other database CD to date, so thanks for bringing this to our attention, John! Now, if I could only find the mono mix of "Love Land" in CD quality from master tape, that would be super!
