   does anyone have a cd single for this song....the reason i ask is that the cassingle has a longer intro than the full cd version.....the intro sound like air rushing through a tube or a subtle cymbal roll.....the cassingle has it for a second or 2 while the full re-issue cd has the start of the song simultaneous with the vocals....i'm hoping the cd single either commercial, promo or import has the correct intro.......anyone??

	Ed, I have the dj cd single which has 4 different versions on it and the lead track is called the "original recipe" (short) version which does have that sound effect on the introduction but it runs (3:52). None of the other 3 versions on my cd single have that particular introduction. Does your cassette single run (4:48) like the LP? Edited by Pat Downey

	yes.....the cassingle version is listed as "original recipe (long)" and runs 4:48....it is identical to the full length cd/lp version but the noise intro runs a bit longer than the cd version intro....i was hoping that the intro was a carry over from the previous track but that's NOT the case........the previous song ends cold........i was hoping someone had the cd single that might have the correct intro...

	Ed, I have the full-length album, promo CD single, and commercial CD single for "Mama Said Knock You Out." You are correct that the sound effects are a tad bit longer at the beginning on the CD single versions. The commercial CD single has the Original Receipe (long) version that is on your cassingle.

	ok...i just purchased the commercial cd single that was issued at the time as def jam/columbia 44k 73703 and it is indeed identical to the cassingle version....the only difference is the intro is a second longer on the cassingle/cd sgl than on the full cd/lp version..........ok, now..........what do we do about this one..........related to the alanah myles issue..........do we state in the db that all version are the lp version all for a second longer pipe intro....again....the 2 versions (full cd and single) are different.....and if we are going to be consistant should we also NOT differentiate these 2 version.........anyone???

	Ed, that's a great question. It goes back to the question "where do we draw the line?" The sound effects at the beginning of the single are actually more like a half second longer...not even a full second. Other than that, there is no other difference between the two. As a reader/subscriber of the database, what do you think would be best? Personally, I think a note next to the song title would do the trick. Reading "LP version" next to each entry would make me think there is a reason I should track down the 45 version. It's another case where I would be disappointed to learn that the only difference is this split second of extra sound effects is it. Perhaps the comment: Beginning sound effects on the commercial single start a half second earlier than the LP version. (a note at the top)

	Looks like Pat is going with the 45 version/LP version designation. This one is a very tough call where a good case can probably be made either way.
