Yep, my buddy Ed Osborne is doing his usual terrific liner notes for this one. Should be a nice collection!

Great news indeed! I believe this would mark the CD debut of "Little Diane" and "Sandy" in their original hit mono mixes!
A number of Dion and the Belmonts mono mixes have previously only appeared on the long out-of-print Greatest Hits CD on Columbia 31942. I've always thought the sound quality on that disc has room for improvement, so I can definitely say I'm looking forward to hearing this upcoming 2-CD set. And I'm also really liking the CD releases I've seen (and heard) so far from this new Real Gone Music label! |

When any of the board members get a chance to listen to this new
release in the next few weeks I would like to know what your thoughts are on the overall sound. Thanks in advance. |

IMHO the overall sound is superb. Some songs have a bit of distortion in places, but this was present on the original 45s. I also find Dion's recollections about the recording of many of his hits very interesting. |

Did they get the correct mono mixes? Since we recently discovered Real
Gone goofed up majorly on the BJ Thomas collection, I was hesitant to buy this one. |

I like the sound on this cd, too. It is a bit loud, but it sounds like the 45's
(without the surface noise, of course!). I think they got the correct mixes, as far as I know. I don't have much Dion on 45, so i guess I can't be 100% certain. I think the matter of getting the correct mixes depends a lot on the engineers and producers. I think that since Ed Osborne is involved with this one (he is not listed in the credits of the B.J. Thomas collection, if I recall correctly), I have a better feeling about it being correct. Mr. Osborne also worked on some of the Collector's Choice singles sets and did an excellent job on those in regards to the correct mixes, I think. He must do his homework and actually compare the tapes with the 45's. I wish other producers would do this. Jon O. Edited by jono |

I agree with Jon on the correct 45 mixes were used for this set, plus
yes the entire set is loud (IMO). Apparently the mono mixes had that "punch" as well back then. |

I've known Ed Osborne for a long time. He's a stickler for using the correct single versions.
