My commercial 45, which is stereo, has a listed time of (3:29), but an actual time of (3:34).

At the start of the 45, there are 7 of the same exact piano notes. Then the "Diamond Girl" vocal starts. On all of the CD versions, there is a much longer musical intro, featuring more piano and guitar strums, before the opening vocals. There may be other edits; I haven't researched it any further than that. My 1973 commercial 45 label has the trees and the "Burbank" mention on it, but WB changed away from the dark green label right around this time. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if other commercial 45s for it had that background.

I have seen a promo 45 of the record on ebay that appeared to be in line with the green label style, but i do not own the record. I suspect the stereo side would contain the same version regardless.

I've seen it on both the green WB and the "palm tree" labels. Some pressing plants probably had leftover green labels that they wanted to use up.

I searched through multiple threads and still didn't find the answer about the "45 version" designation. What differentiates this from just an edit from the LP version?

The piano intro at the beginning is cut approximately in half and it fades early. It's not a different mix.

My promo is white label, similar to the green label WB singles, but even after the stock labels switched to the "Burbank" label, promos stayed white until late '74 or so, at which time they had the same label as commercial copies, only labeled as being promotional. It's the single version mono/stereo. |
