pat

this is an unusual one.....the commercial 45's (rca 13800) face states the run time as 4:46 but the 45 actually runs 3:50 and is 0:06 LONGER than all the 3:44 cd versions in the db.....i don't have the 4:45 version to compare to see if the 45 is just a fade of the full 4:45 cd/lp version.....anyone know???.....and, this info should be noted in the db....

Ed, I only have a dj copy but the short side of that dj copy states a time of (3:45) but actually runs (3:47) and that side is simply an early fade of the LP. I wouldn't be surprised if there were two pressings of this commercial 45 so if anyone has a longer pressing running (4:46), let us know!

Ed and Pat, both my commercial and promo 45s for this one state a running time of (4:46), but both have an actual time of exactly (3:49). My deadwaxes; Stock: PB-13800A-3; Promo: NR 109667 PB-13800A-2. My promo has the stock 45 flip, "Aqua" on the other side, but it is indeed a legitimate, RCA, cream colored, "Not For Sale" promo, just FYI, and appears to be different than your promo, Pat.

I have two promo copies for this song. One is a long/short copy and the deadwax on the short side is PB-13880D-1 which might account for our slightly different running time. The long side, which states a run time of (4:46) actually runs (4:43) matrix number PB-13880A-11. The other promo is the one you have Jim with a stated time of (4:46) and an actual running time of (3:49) and matrix number PB-13800A-2. I have a duplicate of the short/long version Jim if you would like to trade for something else.

if you fade the cd version on "touch" for 0:14 from 3:35 to
3:49 you'll effectively re-create the true vinyl 45
version....

Curiously, is there a "plug side" designation on your copy? It was pretty rare by 1984 to see a promo single on a major label that wasn't a double A-side. I'm wondering if initially RCA wasn't sure which side to promote.

Even though this track had about a 57 second time difference between the LP
and 45 versions, there aren't any version/length designations in the
database.

I assume the 4:45 version on Touch and its various editions represents what
was on the Touch vinyl LP and deserves an "LP Length" designation? And the
3:44-3:45 versions that appear on "Greatest Hits" and various comps
deserve a "45 Length" designation (although each of those appears to be cut
a little short of the 45 by about 5 or 6 seconds). Is that right?

I guess I was waiting to see if anyone came up with a commercial copy of the 45 that ran (4:46 or 4:47) so let's inquire again if anyone has a 45 that states and runs (4:46 or 4:47).

I thought there was a radio edit that used the double voiced "Tell Me" on the first chorus instance. Whereas the album uses just Annie's plain voice on that part.

My imagination?
:)
