Projects

Aaron mentioned in the ZOOM call that he would like to see us talk about the projects we are working on. I am reasonably sure that 60-70%
of the board are interested primarily in obtaining or constructing single versions of Top 40 Hits. If I were a little more capable of
editing, I might give it a go. I am in a peculiar situation of having a LOT of vinyl. What do you do with all that vinyl? Go to the nearest
record store where they might offer you .10 cents a piece? Go online and try to sell some of it at a buck or two? No. For the last 26 years I
have managed to put my collection onto CD. Almost all are still not available on CD, commercially. For instance, I just finished a CD with
the L.P. and a few singles of 'Dana Valery', who had 2 Hot 100 hits. I am now on the L.P. and singles of 'Valjean'! He also had a couple of
minor hits. Do you think that any CD replicating company would ever do the same? No way. I don't stay just with Pop music. I think the most
neglected music on CD is probably Country. I just finished a Mel Tillis CD. The most complete Mel Tillis CD is,"36 All-Time Greatest Hits" on
Timeless Music? It still only scratched the surface of his complete hit output. I had L.P.s of his Elektra hits and more. Who else would do
this? 'Bear Family'? I don't think so. If you multiply the above by the 1600 CD's I've already done, I plead musical insanity. I am not a big
Country fan. I do it because I don't think there are many of us who digitize music to this degree. What if the masters are no longer
available? The 2008 fire at Universal is an indication of 'Nothing is forever'. Am I the only crazy one here? -Bill.

I don't think you are crazy for doing what you like. I have a lot of vinyl I'd like to digitize as well, but despite buying a nice turntable and some extra cartridges, I haven't yet begun.

There's actually a lot of things I'd like to get started on, but I need to figure out the plan of focus and stick with it. (My resolution plan for the last 50+ years.)

I do admit, I get into a Country rut every now and then. It kind-of makes the whole of the picture for me. Even if the part is rather small.

If you're crazy, then so am I. I've put a lot of vinyl
records onto compact disc. I use a very nice turntable
with a good pre-amplifier and my results are worth the
effort. I've done hundreds of vintage singles and albums
and when I listen to them, it's so nice.

Yeah, my father used to crab at me a lot for "wasting"
my money on records too. I had moved away from home
well before AT40 came to be.

I too have a lot of vinyl, primarily 45s but a lot of
LPs too and have wondered the same thing. I'm in my
early 70s, and looking to downsize a bit. I too have
lots of records I hardly ever listen to, but every
time I think about thinning out the collection
there'll be a thread here about some unique version
that's only on the 45.

As far as what to do with the collection, I face the
same dilemma...take 10¢ (if that) on the dollar from a
dealer? Try to sell them onesy-twosey on Discogs? I
dunno. Don't think I have anything that's necessarily
"collectable" anyway...just a lot of old songs, a lot
of which are promo copies in varying condition.
My wife thinks I should donate it to "some museum",
but I can't imagine who'd want it. Hopefully I have
enough years left where 'most anyone who'd be
interested in my music is likely gone too.

Most recently took about a year and a half to cover art the entire top 40 free from any vinyl sounding dubs and organize it as complete as it is most likely ever going to be.

I agree with Paul, the physical can be overrated. Having a digital collection is a lot more mentally satisfying. As much as many of us want to hang on to the CD, it is a few years from totally fading away. Most artists don't even want to release a CD they opt to do so digitally now and offer streaming to the masses.

I was never into vinyl at all. As far as "music insanity" most everyone on this board is pretty much there already, welcome to the club! If i could learn how to properly dub vinyl I would consider doing 12 inches of stuff that is not on CD. That would probably be the only reason to go back to vinyl. Otherwise while youcantdownloadvinyl, you can downloadacdrip.
