The database currently mentions the following info for Marty Robbins' "El Paso":

"stereo versions of El Paso omit several lines that are found on the mono or 45 version of this song; those lines start 1:28 into the mono version with “just for a moment.....” and go to 1:43 “.....and that was to run"

On YouTube, I listened to what appears to be a dub of "El Paso" from Robbins' 1960 parent stereo vinyl LP Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs and it actually matches the above description. Can anyone with a stereo LP copy confirm this?

Meanwhile, there is also a YouTube video consisting of a Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs mono vinyl LP dub of "El Paso" which appears to be identical to the mono commercial 45.

So if all of the preceding info is accurate, then mono database CD appearances of "El Paso" should probably have a "45 and mono LP version" comment, while stereo CDs should contain a "stereo LP version" comment.

Which it should be. The Stereo version is shorter. And the
3 track multitrack master tape is presumed missing.
Otherwise, this would have been remixed for Stereo to give
us the long mono version in Stereo.

Years ago I did a sync comparison between the stereo LP
version and mono 45. The mono 45 was made by splicing 2
takes together. The stereo version is "mostly" the hit
single version, but it is missing the segment that was
spliced in which contains the longer verse. MM

I suspect the edit was done for the first two track Stereo
abridged reel tape release. And that was the first Stereo
release of the album. I suspect that was mastered first.
And released with the mono LP. And when it came time for
the Stereo LP version to be prepared, the 3 track tape
bearing the other take was missing or could not be located.

Does the 2:59 radio edit even exist on CD? If not, how can you recreate it from the 4 plus minute version?

Yes, that is the short promo 45. I forget where in the
song the obvious edit is.

That's my dub and video of my promo 45. I
seem to recall there being one very
obvious edit in between two verses around
the 2:28 mark in this video.
Live in stereo.

I've been trying to finish off my 60's top 10 collection and that radio edit has been the only one I could not find on CD. Thank you for providing it so I can hear what it sounded like.

Tom, listened to the promo edit you posted on YouTube.
Thanks for putting it up. When you hear it, it just
doesn't sound complete. You can almost can tell
listening.
