Paul Haney lists "Bulletproof" by La Roux as a commercially available single on another thread:

La Roux - Bulletproof (Big Life 013222)

I've heard the version on TM Century Hit Discs, and it doesn't match the album version I have. So I bought the CD single last week and received it today. It turns out the CD single I got is from Europe, and I didn't know if they were supplied the same single we were, but I thought I'd take a chance and buy it. I can report that it's exactly the same as US LP version. Not sure what the US single version is - can anyone check if it matches the US album version or not?

The HitDisc version (remix) is 3:26, and and US LP (=Euro single) version is just over 3:25. But they're very different mixes. (The one on HitDiscs has more instrumentation, basically.)

Can anyone determine if the version supplied to HitDiscs/TM Century would best be described as "dj version" or "single version" (i.e. the US single version)?

This song reached #8 in the US and went double platinum; I'm surprised it hasn't been unearthed here that there's either a US radio version or single version that differs from the album version :)

PS I just checked the database.

The database reports the version on the La Roux album and "Now 35" as 3:25 with no mix distinctions. (Pat, can you check that Now 35 is not a remix of the La Roux album version)? Other than that, there are 2 others listed as "remixes that track into the next song" on their respective CDs, timing out at 3:41 and 3:51 each.

So this 3:26 remix on HitDiscs seems to be definitely unique.

I do not hear a mix difference between the La Roux LP and the Now 35 version.

Pat,

There are clearly differences with the NOW 35 and La Roux LP if you listen to both. They are clearly not the same. The NOW 35 is specifically a radio edit (and if you rip the CD is labeled as such by NOW) and one of the key giveaways is the endings are slightly different in fades. The intros are slighty different as well. I agree that the differences might not be too different but this is a topic worth bringing up again.

Favorite two expressions to live by on this board: "You can't download vinyl" and "Not everything is available on CD."

Yes, the version serviced to radio can be identified by the additional keyboard overdub on the intro. It's a single synth note that is held for the entire intro.

So is the version labeled "remix", released on TM Century Hitdiscs to radio, not the radio mix or single mix at all? That one is far different in mix, and not what Richie or Aaron seem to be describing above - which now means there are 3 mixes. And I'm not sure I've heard the single mix then.

It seems odd that TM would service a non-hit remix. I
checked my PrimeCuts disc and GoldDisc and both of them
have the remix.

John & Gordon, the version on HitDisc (non-described version) is what I remember hearing on my local CHR station. It can be identified by an additional synth on the intro. I'm not sure what was available on iTunes/download sites for the digital single. Quite possibly it was the album version.

Just listened to the version that Rich calls the single
mix and the TM version. I think they're the same song. So,
Now 35 would have the hit version?

Aaron and I were posting at the same time. LOL. So, I
would say the Now 35 is the hit version or mix. It matches
the TM version.
