Regarding Lynyrd Skynyrd's "What's Your Name"--all CDs have the LP version running (3:31) and a quick check of eBay shows that the vinyl single has a printed label time of (3:31). Anybody know the difference?
Also (sorry, Ed, I know this wasn't a top 40 hit), anybody know the edit points to construct the (4:11) 45 version of Steve Winwood's "Arc Of A Diver" (or can't it be done)? |

I can only help you with the first question. The 45 version of "What's
Your Name" is a remix of the LP version. The horn section is more pronounced, and, I think, been added to. |

I can't help with either one - but on a related topic to #2, anyone know where the edits are for the 45 of "While You See A Chance"?

I believe there's only one edit for "While You See A Chance" from about (2:21.44) to about (3:26.86). The edit comes in at an awkward spot--the 45 does a okay job of piecing it together (but it even sounds a little awkward on the single).
And to turn this back to "What's Your Name," I could have sworn WLS-AM/Chicago played an edited version of the song (stripping something like two bars out of the instrumental break). They may have done that edit on their own--they were notorious for doing edits above and beyond the typical DJ edits in the 1970s. |

Twelve years later, I can answer the question about the single edit of Steve Winwood's "Arc Of A Diver!" :-D
First, delete 1:57 to 2:49, cutting the beat that has the word "...night..." on it. This removes all of the guitar solo. With what you have left, delete 2:27 to 2:48, cutting out another guitar solo and the "do-doot"s. You should end up with a file approximately 4:14 in length. This YouTube video was what I used as my guide to re-create the edit; it may be helpful to you, too as both edits are pretty specific to include what needs to be included and leave out what needs to be left out. Despite the late date... I hope this helps!! :-D Edited by NightAire |

hello Nightaire,
I can't access that video (maybe a country thing, as I live in Thailand). Do you have an edit you can share? dc1 |
