pat
the 45's face states the run time as 4:48 but it actually runs 4:58 like the one "45 version" in the db.... |

This seemed like a pretty easy edit at first... just cut off the opening prologue
and fade early. But then I realized that the LP version has a cymbal accompaniment over the opening vocal line "Is this the train to desert moon..." whereas the 45 starts cold with that line a cappella. So, am I correct that the LP can't be edited to match the 45 because of that issue with the opening vocal? Too bad because this one seemed pretty easy. |

Yes, the intro is a special mix for the 45 so it can't be created from the LP version.

With the tens of thousands of songs in the database,
lol, I'd forgotten about how great this song is. If you have access to the lone 45 version in the database, excellent. If you don't, like me, but have a 45, what I did delete what I needed off the LP version and paste the first 5 seconds of the 45 onto the lp... I then faded what I had left from 4:44-4:58. Thanks for letting me revisit some 1984 memories. Edited by eriejwg |

You know, I recall I did the same thing. I didn't have the
CD source either so I tacked on the intro opening line of the 45 to the LP mix and it sounded fine. |

The 45 version is on CD. I have it on the following comp - to save you
searching the database: Class Reunion: The Greatest Hits of 1984 (Rebound Records) Edited by ptgraphics |

I bought that comp very cheaply on Amazon a few years back, just to get that one song. What a great forgotten hit! |

Ditto. I bought that comp years ago for the one song, and I only knew about its release because of Pat's book). And agree - it's a great forgotten hit. I actually use the album version for my personal listening. |
