Jim, did you ever play the 7" CHR Remix on your station?

my commercial cassingle issued as a&m 1455 does not state a version on the cardboard sleeve or the cassingle itself but contains the below 2 tracks

1-rhythm nation (4:27)
2-rhythm nation (instrumental) 4:44

Aaron, if my memory is working properly at the moment, we stayed with the "Edit" from the first disc for all on-air play as a current, so the answer to your question is no.

Can anyone confirm if the 4:39 version of Janet Jackson's "Rhythm Nation" appearing on the Soul Train 25th Anniversary box set (MCA 11329) is actually the "LP Version" radio edit from the promo CD single? Currently, the database shows a "neither the 45 nor LP version" comment for this entry.

Todd, I can't answer your question, but I can tell you how to make the single edit from the LP version.

First, I should say the vinyl copy I have (which is from the 12" "remixes" release) runs a hair slower than the CD version from Rhythm Nation 1814. I believe the turntable I used was accurate, but I can not say whether the 12" pressing was accurate to the original speed of either the 7" or the CD single.

Remove 0:00 to 0:12.731, ending at the beat with the "whoo!"

From your resulting file, remove 3:22 to 3:37.5, ending where Janet comes back in with "Rhythm Nation."

From your resulting file, remove 3:45 to 4:00.876, ending where Janet starts singing "Sing it to your baby" (or something similar; hard to make out).

The ONLY difference between the LP and single version which canNOT be re-created from the LP version is the "splash" at the end, which runs 2 & 1/4 seconds longer on the single but is cut off with talking on the LP version.

Other than that, you have a match.

Hope this helps!

You can actually recreate the 'edit' with the Number
Ones
version.

Remove from 00:00 to 1:00.315
Keep from 1:00.315 to the end of song

The ending splash is intact with no talking over the
end. The resulting file runs 4:28.

So the version on the import "Design of the Decade" is not the edit version but
a different version?

The 4:27 is the edit version. It's the same as the 45 shown here....
