"Tutti-Frutti" - Little Richard...

   From what I've gathered through research, the LP mix of Little Richard and His Band's "Tutti-Frutti" contains reverb, while the 45 mix does not (or only has very little).  Can anyone confirm this?

Incidentally, the song contains reverb on the following Little Richard CDs in my library:

The Georgia Peach (Specialty 7012)

22 Classic Cuts (UK import - Ace 159)

Meanwhile, "Tutti-Frutti" is relatively "dry" on  The Rock 'N' Roll Era 1954-1955 various artists CD (Time-Life 2RNR-08).  So it would seem then the other database CDs will need to be individually examined as well.

	paul....i just re-listened to my vinyl 45 versus the rhino '18 greatest hits' cd and they're very close....no reverb on either the vinyl 45 or cd version.....so these i'm ok with...

	Thanks for confirming that your 45 of "Tutti-Frutti" has no reverb, Ed. I listened to what appears to be an upload of the Here's Little Richard vinyl LP on YouTube and the song does contain reverb, so it's certainly looking like there is a 45/LP mix situation here.

	Todd, would you be able to post the url of that YouTube video? There are numerous "Here's Little Richard" LP videos uploaded (some re-recordings too) and I want to get the correct one to hear the reverb. or, alternatively, if you could send me the version from The Georgia Peach... thanks. 	Todd I do not have the vinyl 45 of Tutti Frutti but I can assume Ed is correct when he says the reverb on the 45 matches the cd version found on 18 Greatest Hits. Using this as a reference point I pulled out the Georgia Peach cd which you say has reverb on it and I cannot hear any difference between the two. Can you point out any segment where you feel the reverb is pronounced on the Georgia Peach cd? I compared a segment from 1:00 to 1:04 which has no instrumental backing at all and I just do not hear what you are hearing.

	My apologies for taking so long to follow up with this thread. I listened to the Little Richard "Tutti Frutti" commercial 45 as it appears at the following YouTube link: Little Richard - ''Tutti Frutti" (commercial 45) The sound quality admittedly isn't the best on the linked video and the audio levels are a bit low. With that said, I don't hear any reverb on the 45. This confirms what Ed reported with his copy. I also re-listened to Little Richard's "A whop bop-a-lu-bop a whop bam boom" a capella intro on the The Rock 'N' Roll Era 1954-1955 various artists CD (Time-Life 2RNR-08) and it clearly sounds "dry" to me. Now compare that same intro to the Here's Little Richard CD on Specialty 33300 (which is supposed to be based on the parent LP) and I can definitely hear reverb. Unfortunately, I now can't seem to locate where on YouTube I thought I'd heard "Tutti Frutti" from the Here's Little Richard vinyl LP. However, the Here's Little Richard CD I referenced above was supposedly mastered directly from the original LP master tapes. In fact, there are even photographs of the actual tape reel and labeled tape boxes within the CD booklet and on the inside of the CD tray itself. So if the mixes on this CD are indeed an accurate reflection of the vinyl LP release, then I'd again contend we have a 45/LP mix difference here with "Tutti Frutti". But of course what we really need is someone with a vinyl LP copy of Here's Little Richard who can report to us whether or not reverb is present on that song. Edited by Todd Ireland
