Hi all,

i realize none of the Yaz singles made it anywhere near the top 40, however "Situation" is such an 80's classic, i'd add it to the list of non-top40 classics.

Years ago i had the orig, Sire 45 (shown as by Yazoo before they shortened it for the U.S.)

might anyone have that 45 they can shoot me a mp3 dub? I'd like to rereate it from the CD.....
My new-wave folder has the LP/12" but i used to play that 45 a lot, so i'd like that edit for my pop folder!
ah, high-school memories.
thanks, if anyone has.....
MM

I just purchased a CD off of amazon called "18 Modern Rock Classics From The 80's" (JCI) cause it contained the 45 version of "True Faith" which I needed. The CD also contains a 3:44 version of "Situation". I've never heard the 45 version before (all I have ever heard was the 12"/LP version) but it could be the 45 version. Is 3:44 the correct time of the 45 version? I can send your way if interested.

Hi Jeff,

thanks very much, several kind folks sent me a dub of the 45, so i'm all set.
I can confirm also the version on "18 Modern Rock Classics" is indeed the original Sire 45 version.

BTW, i always felt Francois Kevorkian's remix made the record. The original mix on Mute in the UK was completely dry, no reverb or effects at all. (At the time, I also had the UK Mute 12" for "Only You", and the original mix of "Situation" was on the B-side in the UK.)

Thanks,
MM

Does anybody have the length of the original mix? I don't have a copy of the 3:45 version (which appears to have been both to be both the US commercial single version and the US promo version), but have a 3:10 version.

It sounds like it has the reverb of the 5:43 version (U.S remix), but doesn't match anything other than this 7" released in France in 1982.

If it was a promo edit that got any airplay in the United States, I'll pop it into rotation. If not, I'll have to get a copy of "18 Modern Rock Classics."

Gene,

You definitely want the 3:45 version on the JCI CD, that
is the US Sire single, edited from the US 12"/LP.

The version on the original Mute 45 (b-side of "Only
You") actually runs 2:22 and you can hear that mix here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJ4oehQJEK8

The French 45 in your link is the same as the UK Mute
45...i think the 3:10 timing you are thinking of refers
to "Only You".

The Mute 45 for "Situation" actually did have some reverb
added as you'll hear, but it's very different than the US
remix. It sounds almost like a demo.

The very DRY mix of it was the Mute 12" b-side, running
5:20.

Since I missed out on this song in the '80s, I only became familiar with it after its re-release in 1990. As such, I've always preferred the 1990 "Single Remix," mainly because I think the drum track is better.

I was able to locate the 3:44 single version on the
Starter For 10 OST on Rhapsody.
