I finally finish up a VERY active 1978, post-wise, with a song not found in the database, but one that peaked at #39 in Billboard in 4/78. FYI, my commercial 45, which was released from their "Alive II" LP, has both a listed and actual time of (3:04). However, the only CD I know of that features this live take, my CD copy of "Alive II", contains a version of "Rocket Ride" with both a listed and actual time of (4:07). So, this version was obviously edited, faded, or both, to shave off a total of (1:03), to create the 45 version. I will soon be shooting out both versions to either Aaron or Todd, for their evaluation, and will be reporting back later with their expert findings.

Can someone explain the differences between Cash Box and Billboard when it comes to how their charts were put
together? Maybe this isn't the right location for such a question, but what was the difference? Thanks to all for your incredible attention to detail!! |

My impression was that Cashbox was more sales oriented, while the 45 rpm existed.

was it ever determined if the 3:04 45 version can be edited down from the 4:07 cd/lp version?

Bumping this up to see if Jim, Aaron or Todd can answer Ed's question. I'm wondering the same myself. Thanks in advance.

I'm almost positive I supplied the vinyl 45 audio to Todd (and maybe to
Aaron as well.) I'm sure this one just got "lost in the sauce" of many ongoing song analysis projects at one time. Todd, whenever time allows, could you check to make sure that I did indeed get that 45 dub to you? Thanks! |

Jim, I do have a 45 dub, but I don't have the Alive II CD to create the edit. It can be done, though. There are 2 edits and an early fade.
Referencing the LP version, the following sections are removed: - instrumental section from 1:11 to 1:17 (edit is on the 4th count in the measure) - instrumental section from 2:06 to 2:12 (edit is on the first count in the measure) - fade starts at 3:07 and goes to 3:18 To create the edit, work backwards by doing the fade first, then edit out 2:06 to 2:12, and finally edit out 1:11 to 1:17. The result will be the 45 version. |

although the song is from an album titled "alive II" the
song isn't a live recording, correct?....my 45 sounds like a studio recording....no audience applause evident... |

To 'edtop40':
Right. It's a studio recording to have a contemporaneous single for radio promotion. Andy |
