The stereo version has a faint cymbal beat in one channel early in the song that is not present on the mono version.

There is an Australian import that has a stereo edit of the album version that otherwise matches the 45. It's possible this stereo edit was the commercial single version in Australia.

Hykker, I was also totally confused as to why the Capitol stock 45 I bought on 2/18/75 both boldly stated, and actually was in mono. And you're also right when you say it had been several years since any commercial Capitol 45 I'd bought was NOT issued in stereo. At the time I just assumed it was remixed for 45 release, and they wanted to also offer that mix to consumers. But when I later got a promo 45 for it, and both stereo & mono versions were included, I had to chuck that thoery, and I remain baffled as to why Capitol did it to this day. Unless, of course, they considered that faint cymbal beat that Brian hears only on the stereo mix to have been the difference between a hit record and a stiff!

What's even more baffling is why they included the mono single version on her greatest hits LP & CD.

Thanks for the input, gentlemen. So is the stereo side of the "Emotion" promo 45 identical to the LP version then? Also, I don't have the 45 version of "I Am Woman" on CD, but I take it from Brian's last comment that the 45 is a different mix and therefore cannot be edited from the LP version?
