The actual and printed commercial 45 run time of Animotion's "Obsession" is 3:58. (Timing info is brought to us once again by abagon.) I only bring this up because database CD entries containing a "45 version" comment range from 3:54-4:02.

The disc Mercury 314532319 Obsession - Best Of includes a 12" remix of this song. Currently only the album version is listed in the database.

Does anyone know the origin of this 12" Remix that runs 7:29? I own a US 12" single that includes the 12" Version running 6:00. Discogs lists several retail and promotional variations of the 12" single, but all appear to include only the 6 minute version as well. I could swear I heard the 12" Remix (which includes elements from the Dub version) back when the song was on the charts, so it would seem there must be an original 12" single that includes this version. |

We received two different promo 12" singles for this in early 1985, and
here are the particulars: Mercury PRO 337-1 Side One: 1-Obsession (Album Version) (listed 5:32) Side Two: 1-Obsession (7" version) (listed 3:58) Mercury PRO 345-1 A Side: 1-Obsession (Special AOR Mix) (listed 5:00) (Remixed by John Ryan and Bob Schaper - Guitar solos: Don Kirkpatrick) B Side: 1-Obsession (Album Version) (listed 5:32) Personally, I'm a bit surprised that Mercury would've thought the song held possible appeal for AOR-formatted stations, but they clearly did. The group's 2nd album, issued in 1986, was issued on Casablanca. I have a strong suspicion that the (7:29) 12" remix for "Obsession" was not released in 1985, and only saw the light of day, on their new label, in 1986 or later, if that fact happens to be of any importance to anyone.
