On iTunes, they have two anthologies, both called The Playboy Years;
one attributed to Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds, and the other to Hamilton, Joe Frank & Dennison. Each anthology has a version of "Fallin' In Love", with the 'Reynolds' version listed at 2:58, and the 'Dennison' version listed at 3:14. It's obvious that, in listening to the samples, that the longer-listed version is slower than the other. Is that the difference between the LP and 45 versions, or is it only length, as described by Pat in the database? By the way, they also list "Winners And Losers" as being available. |

Paul, I just hopped over to iTunes and they all sound like re-recordings to me...

The difference between the 45 and LP is not due to speed. The 45 has a longer fadeout, with additional repeats of the chorus. I was able to get a very close recreation by repeating the last chorus on the fadeout of the LP version, but it was tricky, requiring the gain to jacked up significantly to get the correct fade. |

my commercial 45 for the hamilton, joe frank & reynolds
song "fallin' in love" issued as playboy 6024 states the run time on the label as 3:13 but actually only runs 3:11....this 45 run time info should added to the db.... |

I must have overlooked this thread when it was created four years ago. The iTunes tracks do NOT sound like re-recordings to me, but "Fallin' In Love" is mastered from a 45 and at the wrong speed. As the database notes, there was a physical release for the set credited to Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds but, as PaulEschen notes above, that set features the song in its shorter LP lenghth. |

FYI: My copy of the CD The Playboy Years is a complete needle drop. The songs play out of order (so they don't match the track listing). Last, but not least, the songs start to play slower and slower as the CD continues (which leads me to believe there must have been an issue with the turntable used to play the album). In other words I use this disc as a coaster and was a complete waste of my money.

Not the song in question, but the song "Winners and Losers"
from "The Playboy Years" that I downloaded from iTunes is a remix. |
