As reported in another thread, the "Edit" is just an early fade of the LP version.

The LP version is available on:
  • Ritual Of Love (Warner Bros. 9 26320-2, 1991; runs 4:06)
  • Living In The 90s (Razor & Tie S22-18601, 1995; runs 4:06; digitally exactly 0.6 dB quieter than Ritual Of Love)
  • Pump Up The Jam! '90s Dance Hits (Realm OPCD-3601, 2002; runs 4:05)
The sound quality on all three is comparable.

I have the "Edit" on Top Hits USA RH11, which runs about 3:52. (I'm just beginning to compare my Top Hits USA "RH" recurrents library with commercially available discs, and I don't know if they did any in-house edits. I doubt that they did, but I'll keep you posted if I find any.)

Based on my timing for Living In The 90s, the fade is a 16-beat fade from 3:43.4 to 3:52.2.

Ron:

I didn't start subscribing to RPM until 1994, and did so until 2005. My only problem with those early years was the amount of compression they used on their discs. Horrendous!

RPM did do some house edits especially eliminating some of the controversial lyrics of songs. They also faded the songs early in many occasions on the discs they released in the 90's.

Gary:

Many times they ran the offending part of a lyric through software so it was backwards. One I can think of off the top of my head was "Salt Shaker" from the Ying Yang Twins.
Numerous backward sections!!

Yes, when I see the run times Pat has posted on the site, have seen where the run time for RPM songs can be anywhere from :05-:15 shorter.

My promo CD single info is as follows:

Warner Bros. PRO-CD-4800
1. Edit (listed & actual 3:56)
2. Album Version (listed 4:10; actual 4:05)

As Ron points out above, the "Edit" is an early fade of the LP version, although Top Hits USA disc fades it a few seconds earlier than the promo CD.

Interestingly, the US maxi CD single has a version called "Single Mix" that runs 4:06. This version is remixed by Shep Pettibone, so it doesn't match the LP version or the "Edit."

Does this mean the fade is 3:43.2-3:56?
