I couldn't find a thread on this song....
I see in the database all CDs are listed as "LP Version". But I compared it to a 45 dub, which is mono, but I don't hear any significant difference between the two other than mono/stereo. A fold-down sounds the same to me. Can anyone shed some light on what the difference is? MM |

I had to reference an LP vs. 45
designation thread from 2005. Here's what Pat said about Operator- "Listen to the guitar between 1:33 and 1:35 - it is different from the 45 to the LP." |

There is a lone CD in the database
that has the 45 version. |

For the mono 45, they either spliced in some better guitar licks at that point, possibly from a different point in the song, or used another guitar track. There were
two different guitar tracks recorded, as the quad version reveals. Which I believe was a mixing mistake for the quad version. For the DJ 45, the mono side features the same mix as the commercial 45, and the stereo side is the typical album mix. |

Well,
With John G's assistance I was now able to hear the differences between the stereo and mono 45 mixes. As noted above, the mono mix has a different "improved" guitar overdub at 1:33 - 1:35. I also noted the piano is louder at about 2:53 in the mono and it's also louder near the end at about 3:31. The piano track is nearly mixed out of the stereo at those places. I could not hear these things by A-B-ing them, I had to sync them together. And overall, the 2 guitars are mixed at different levels throughout. As I recall, I had to do the same thing to identify the differences in the mono and stereo "Bad Bad Leroy Brown" ... once I sync'd them together the differences popped out. Thanks for the help!
