Just wondering if anyone knows where to locate an Alternate Version of Brenda Lee's "I Want To Wanted" with the line "I want someone to say Good Morning and Good Night to, someone I know that I will always have a right to", which isn't on the well-known hit version. I had this version on a VA Cassette Compilation years ago, probably late 80's/early 90's and haven't come across it since. I believe it's a completely different vocal take and sounds like it was recorded around the same time as the more common version. Don't know if it's ever been on CD though, that's why I'm asking here. Thanks for any help and/or information on this.

Dan- This version I have on the re-issue of 'I Want To Be Wanted' (45 RPM single) with 'Sweet Nothins' on the
back. MCA 60069 on MCA's back to back hits series. It does sound like an alternate take done at the same time, mono. -Bill. |

I wonder if these are the original lyrics before some Decca executive said, "We have to change that line and not make it sound like
sweet Brenda Lee just wants to spend the night with a guy". ;) -Bill. |

Which label color, blue or black? I wonder if the black label matched the original 45 (mca often used original 45 stampers),and they later swapped the stamper for a new master and the wrong tape was pulled? |

Live in stereo.

Mine is the blue w/ clouds & rainbow. In the run-out wax it says,'109493'. The number '108744' is also there
with a few lines through it. I guess we can draw our own conclusions as to what that means. -Bill. |

My blue label copy of MCA 60069 does not have the
alternate take. It has only '109493 W1' in the run-out wax. The "I Want To Be Wanted" side is stereo; the "Sweet Nothin's" side is mono. It came in the blue MCA generic sleeve which was not introduced until 1984. I purchased it new around 1986. Edited by Paul C |

Mine is also in the blue generic sleeve. My record store purchased the last significant copies out of MCA on 1/29/92. Most of the Brenda
Lee re-issues were coming out on 'American Pie' label on 5/13/91, and I knew my customers would rather have MCA than American Pie. -Bill. |

Yeah, I thought about that too. She was still underage at time so it wouldn't surprise me in the least if that was the case. I remember reading somewhere that some people at Decca were even worried about "I'm Sorry" thinking that she was too young to be singing about unrequited love, or something to that effect. By the way, I think that compilation that the Alternate Version appears on is "Solid Gold Party Rock II" from Silver Eagle Records. I have the Cassette somewhere, will have to dig it out of storage to make sure it's the version I remember. I have a few Silver Eagle compilations on Cassette, wish they would have been available on CD at the time. I don't think too many of them made it to CD. Edited by thecdguy |
