Shame on me! I haven't yet paid up for the database, but does this song appear on any domestic CDs? I made a nice needle drop of it years ago from the 1972 Capitol LP, but I would like better.

I only see it as gettable on the Ultimate Collection: Anthology import CD, per allmusic.com. I don't think that was a top 40 hit, though, so it doesn't appear in Pat's database.

Grant, you mean you settled for the LP version of "What
Would the Children Think", when the 45 version is
different?!? Then shame on you twice, lol. (Okay, being a
wise-@$$ here - that was a reference to our earlier convo
on budaniel's thread about the obsession w/ "45 versions"
among most folks here, where you included yourself among
them...)

Seriously, though, the song has sadly yet to appear on
any domestic CD to date. (I was very surprised when it
wasn't included on Springfield's 2-CD "Written in Rock"
anthology last year, even though it would've required
Sony/BMG to license it from Capitol/EMI.) And Doug is
right - the single did miss the top 40, hitting only #70
in "Billboard" and #76 in "Cash Box"...

However, as Doug also noted, the (3:43) LP version does
currently appear on one import CD - 1998's "Anthology",
released in Springfield's native Australia, which I do
have (actual run time on the CD is 3:39, though)...

I'm a big RS fan myself, and he is actually one of the
few artists whom I do collect on 45 as well - and I can
tell you that the single of "What Would the Children
Think" was an edit (possibly a different mix as well) of
the LP version, clocking in at just (3:27)...

I can provide you w/ CD-R copies of the LP version from
the import "Anthology" CD, as well as the 45 version
directly from my U.S. vinyl 45, if interested (sorry,
don't yet have the ability to clean up any recordings
made from vinyl, though)...

Also have Springfield's mega-rare (and pretty funny) 1974
ode to the streaking fad, "Streakin' Across the U.S.A.",
which failed to chart, and was only ever issued on 45 (w/
the domestic lyrics, anyway - he also recorded a
different version for the Aussie market), in the event
you might remember that one as
well...

To be honest, I didn't know there was a single version of it.
