I've been hearing what sounds like a pop remix of Gotye featuring Kimbra's "Somebody That I Used to Know" on local Top 40 stations. The most noticeable difference is it contains an additional percussion/rhythm overdub not heard on the album version. Does anyone know what the official name of this mix is? And has it appeared on an official promo CD single release or is it only being made available to radio stations via digital download?

A couple of weeks ago this remix showed up on TM Century's A disc as "Tempo Edit".

Bumping this back up since it's now being reported in another thread that this mix is called the "Rhythmic Remix".

I too have been trying to locate a remix we heard on the
local alt. station. It kept all the elements of the LP version but had an extra drum track. I've tried quite a few sites that post remixes, and alas there are hundreds out there for this song. But, they all are club type remixes, changing the whole track. I also found the above mentioned "Tempo Edit" but to me that beat is too techno for what i heard on the radio. I found this one remix that fits what everyone describes, and i *think* it may be the one we heard: http://www.z90.com/pages/z_newmusic?Mike-D---Somebody- That-I-Used-To-Know-Re=1&blockID=593570&feedID=7484 It's by a "DJ Mike D" and seems to be designed for pop radio. I found it posted at other stations as well. Thanks for any input. MM |

Yes, it's the "Mike D Rhythmic Remix"--the same one I referred to in the other post. It just has an added rhythm track on top of the LP version.

I visited DJMikeD.com and found a wav file of the track
that was downloadable from his site. |

Interesting that he has it on his site. Although it's the same mix as what I have, mine runs 30 seconds longer. I'd be curious to know which version is being played on the air (the 3:34 edit or the 4:04 length remix).
The stations in my area are playing the album version. |

I've heard nothing but the album version in Tulsa on the CHR, Rhythmic CHR, and Alternative stations.
(This song has really crossed format boundaries! I'm waiting for the local country stations to start playing it... lol!) Edited by NightAire |

UPDATE:
I heard one of the local CHRs (106.9 K-Hits, KHTT-FM 106.9 Muskogee / Tulsa, OK) play the 4:03 Mike D "added hook version" remix tonight in what I assume was regular rotation. Although they might only be playing this version at night, there was nothing said before or after to indicate it was an unusual event. While certainly a different feel, I do like the mix! One notable difference between the longer "added hook" mix and the original mix (& the album version) is that it breaks the first verse into two "mini-verses" which more closely match the length of the female singer's verse. Someone mentioned two versions with 30 seconds' difference between; he now has both versions posted: DJ Mike D This song is having an interesting run... Edited by NightAire |
