Was this one sent to radio via promo CD single? I seem to remember it sounding hotter on the
radio as compared to the album version on Go West Young Man, but I could be mistaken. Edited by prisdeej |

We received it on an MCA compilation promo in April of 1991. It also had Alanis' first pop hit "Too Hot", which was four years before she reworked her image and hit the US charts.
As for "Place...", it was a CHR edit, but I cannot remember if it was a hotter mix. I had downloaded the CD album mix and I heard the guitar solo on it, so I don't think that the song was down-mixed for AC radio. I always thought that when Michael sang "Plaaaaaaaaaaaace in this world", he sounded a bit like a buzz saw. Maybe it might be worth also noting that in September of 1991, the follow up single called "For You" was a provided as a hotter CHR and AC mix for radio. It was named something like the David Scott mix (I can't really the producer's name). |

Besides the time differences, are the LP and Edit Remixes the "same" mix?

"I don't think that the song was down-mixed for AC radio."
The song was down-mixed for AC radio. I don't have the CD at my disposal at the moment but the "AC remix" had the guitar solo muted, amongst other things. |

I had remembered that the guitar solo removed for the AC mix of "I Will Be There For You", two years later. I didn't know if this song followed the same template. I'll be interested to hear from Smokin' Tom whether the album and edit mixes are of the same mix.

Likewise, Jody. I knew a second mix exists, my ears weren't fooling me. It blows my
mind that such a spiritual/uplifting song reached the top 10 on the pop charts. Doubt the same thing would happen nowadays. |

Well I'll be. The Edit/Remix or Full Remix is the version I remember from CHR. It's
mixed with an electric guitar in the front and other instrumentation brought forward. It's slightly less on the vocal than the LP Version. These hotter mixes catapulted the record to top 10 status, no doubt. Well done Smokin' TG! |

I just obtained another promo CD for "Place In This World," which has not been previously mentioned.
PRO-CD-4204 1. LP Version (listed 4:01; actual 3:59) 2. AC Remix (listed & actual 4:12) 3. Soft AC Remix (listed 4:12 & actual 4:14) Tracks 1 & 2 have a guitar solo at 2:15, but the guitar is mixed quite a bit lower on the AC Remix. For the Soft AC Remix, they have replaced the guitar solo with a Toto-like synthesizer solo. |

Came across the music video, and I noticed that it's sped up a half step. The
song is in C until after the guitar solo when it modulates to C Sharp. Every other version I have heard has it in B to C. Is this the version that CHR was playing? Michael W. Smith- Place In This World |
