There are definitely multiple versions of "Meet Virginia." I have a copy on my Promo Only series that has an extra guitar overdub after the guitar solo and before the last verse. I would assume this is one of the two radio versions, but I don't own the promo. (The official music video has this version.)
This isn't the version my old top 40 station played, though. They played what I believe to be an edit of the album version. At the same part on the album version, after the solo, the instrumental section before the last verse (which is missing the guitar overdub on the album version) is cut in half. Perhaps this is also one of the two radio versions. Hopefully someone can provide some insight. |

Aaron the only promo CD single I own for this song includes just one track:
-Train-"Meet Virginia" (CSK 42576) 1-(Pop Mix) (listed 3:44; actual 3:43) I will shoot it out to you, sir, for you to analyze/compare against your Promo Only version. Edited by jimct |

I have a U.S. promo CD single (CSK 41775) with the following tracks:
1. Radio Version #1 (listed 3:58; my timing 3:56) 2. Radio Version #2 (listed 4:00; my timing 3:57) 3. Album Version (listed 4:00; my timing 3:57) My timings may be off by a second or two. Tracks 1 and 2 are indicated as being "remixed by Matt Wallace". The Promo Only version Aaron describes matches both Track 1 and Track 2. (I haven't yet been able to detect the difference between the two radio versions). The jewel case has a label stating "Add date 3/23", but this song did not debut on the Hot 100 until October 9, 1999. I don't think a commercial single was released in the U.S. |

Jim and Paul, thanks so much for uncovering this information. I haven't yet had a chance to listen to the "Pop Mix" from Jim's promo CD, but I am certain this is the version my old top 40 station played. Thanks so much for sending it over, Jim! I'll do some comparing to the Radio Version on my Promo Only CD to see if I can detect any mix differences, other than the overdub.

I just did my comparison, and the Pop Mix has the electric guitars mixed down slightly. Also, there are two edits: one during the solo, and one during the instrumental section after the solo. The album version is also mixed slightly different from both the Pop Mix and the Radio Version.
That said, the mix differences are very slight, and you'd probably never notice unless doing a direct A/B comparison. |

Not sure if you guys know this, but Pat Monahan, the lead singer of Train, is originally from here in the Erie, PA area.

with so many promo cd singles issued during its chart run,
does anyone remember which version got the most airplay?...the 'edit' version, the 'pop mix' version or the 'radio version #1'.... |

We were serviced with the same promo as PaulC has, we played one of the radio versions (I didn't hear any difference between them either, so I just picked one when I dubbed it into the automation). Dunno if we got any of the other variations of promo singles on this. Despite being an R&R reporter, service from Columbia was kind of spotty. Edited by Hykker |

Ed, out of curiosity, does this promo say "Printed in USA" or any reference to being a US promo? The catalog number is odd for a US release, so could it be an import? |
