I just finished typing a novel about the various promo CDs and versions listed in the database, and the site booted me out when I hit "Post New Topic." Since it took me about a half hour to detail all of it, I'm not going to be as detailed this time around.

The short story:

Two promos
CD45-18130
1. LP (5:43)
2. Short (4:09) (45 version)

CD45-18229 (these are the remixes that are contained on many database CDs)
1. 7" Edit (4:02) (listed 3:59) (no rap at 2:35)
2. Radio Edit (4:10) (rap at 2:35)
3. Extended Hype (5:40)

Pat, please double-check your New Edition "All The Number Ones," as my copy has the (4:10) Radio Edit, but the database lists (4:29) as the run time. Maybe there are two pressings.

By the way, the other part of the story is that there are a bunch of database CDs with "neither" listed next to them. Those are going to be either the 7" Edit or the Radio Edit. For CDs that have a (4:29) remix, I don't know where the length comes from, but it's the same remix as the others.

One more note I just thought of... Our top 40 station played the "Short" (45 version) when it was a hit. Years later, when we still played it as a gold or during our retro lunch hour, we had switched to the 7" Edit.

Pat, I see you've updated the listing. Thanks! There are two CDs that still list "neither":

(S) (4:01) Hip-O 40099 Absolutely '90s (neither the 45 nor LP version)
(S) (4:01) Hip-O B0005330 New Edition - Gold (neither the 45 nor LP version)

Do these CDs perhaps contain the 7" Edit (same remix as "Radio Edit" but missing the rap at 2:35)?

Just listened to a preview of the track on New Edition - Gold and it sounds like a completely different mix, not the Radio Edit.

I also just listened to a preview of this song on the same CD, and it does sound like the Radio Edit mix. Please note that the Radio Edit and 45 version are completely different mixes. The 45 version is an edit of the LP version. The Radio Edit is a short version of the Extended Hype mix.

my commercial cassingle issued as motown 2045 states the version as (7" edit) with no listed run time but actually runs 4:01.....so something is amiss here...can someone do an A/B to see if the vinyl 45 actually runs 4:09.....if so....we have a difference in single formats....i have the promo cd single issued as mca cd45-18130 and the second track is NOT the same as the cassingle version....if the vinyl 45 actually runs 4:09 then the 4:01 versions in the db should be qualified as the cassingle version and not as neither......it's funny how the 7" edit is on the cassingle and NOT on the 7"!!!!...also...my cassingle DOESN'T have the rap at the 2:35 mark...

Ed, I just obtained both dj cd singles and I can report that the 2nd track of dj cd single 18130 matches the vinyl 45 (which runs (4:10)) perfectly. I also just ordered a copy of the cassette single so I will have all pieces of the puzzle in hand shortly. By the way I do not hear any rap at the 2:35 mark on the dj cd single or vinyl 45.

Pat, yes, that's correct. There is no rap on the LP version or vinyl 45 version.
To summarize the versions and run times:

- LP Version (5:43)
- Short (aka vinyl 45 version - an edit of the LP version) (4:10)
- 7" Edit (a remix without rap at 2:35) (4:02)
- Radio Edit (a remix with rap at 2:35) (4:10)
- Extended Hype (same remix as Radio Edit but longer) (5:43)
