In the index, the list for this song shows all LP versions based on
the fact that the song is part of a medley with "Get Away". But the version that is on The Chicago Story: Complete Greatest Hits (Rhino 73606) is the 45 version. I thought the 45 version was just an early fade of the medley. Are there any other differences? |

No there are no other differences but it looks like I had better get "The Chicago Story" and review it!
Actually I just went to search for "The Chicago Story" and could not find a title like that which is still in print. How old is this cd? Edited by Moderator |

"Chicago Story" is an import, Paul. Pat doesn't list imports in his database.

It's from 2002, but I don't know if you'll be able to officially use it for
the index, as the last line of credits on the back says "Warner Music Manufacturing Europe" and has an "LC" logo as well. It is a handy 2- disc set, claiming to include single versions of "Will You Still Love Me," "Look Away," "What Kind Of Man Would I Be?" "Love Me Tomorrow" and "You're Not Alone." |

Those single versions are available on the domestic Very Best Of CD as well. Of course, the VBOC disc did use the "Hard To Say I'm Sorry/Get Away" medley (I found the faded single on an import David Foster compilation). Speaking of Chicago, I asked about this a while ago, so let me try again. Anyone here know the difference between the 45 and LP versions of "(I've Been) Searchin' So Long" (I don't think I've ever heard the single)? Edited by sriv94 |

I recently took "Hard to Say I'm Sorry" from a CD source and replicated the fade exactly as it is heard on the commercial 45 using my digital audio editing software. In the process, I timed the 45 run time to be 3:51. The database currently lists the actual time at 3:48. You might want to check into this and update the database as needed. |

Todd, I only have the dj copy of this song "Hard To Say I'm Sorry" but both the mono and stereo sides run (3:48)

As you know, the LP version of "Hard to Say I'm Sorry" transitions into an uptempo jam called "Get Away". I asked Ed to e-mail an mp3 of his commercial 45 copy so I could check the time. When listening closely to the final few seconds on the commercial 45, you can actually hear the opening drum roll that commences the "Get Away" portion of the song before the 45 completely fades out. Do you hear the drum roll at the tail end of your DJ copy, Pat? If not, then I'd say it's safe to conclude the commercial 45 indeed runs several seconds longer than your DJ copy. |

That must be the difference Todd as I do not hear any drum roll during the fadeout on the dj copy. The matrix number is a very long number but it does have "dj" etched in it so I am convinced there are two different pressings of this 45.
Does anyone have the stated running time on the commercial 45? Edited by Pat Downey |

"Hard To Say I'm Sorry" also appears on the "Summer Lovers" soundtrack (Warner Bros. 1-23695) LP, that does not appear to be released on CD. The version on that LP runs 3:48, although it is listed at 3:50. Dan
