There are two different lengths printed on the stock 45s. One verson states a label time of 2:51 with a run time of 2:49. The B side is "I Gotta Dream" A Cook-Greenway song.
The other issue lists a label time of 2:48 and is correct, B side is "Bad Side Of Town" written by K. Barry and L. Shannon. Probaby a royalty issue, both singles are Capitol 3086. Looks like somebody timed the one issue better than the other. |

I loaded this up into the digital editor to determine if there was more a difference beteween the two issues than just the B sides. There is a difference.
The 2:51 labelled record runs about 2:50, the 2:48 labbeled record runs about 2:49. But there is a pitch difference. When you line them both up on an editor, the 2:51 45 has a slower pitch than the 2:48 45. The 2:51 label makes no reference to an album but the 2:48 record says "From the Album Here Comes That Rainy Day Feeling Again". So I think that after they originally issued the song they sped it up slightly to give it a little more punch. They fade out about the same point so the 2:48 version isn't pitched up THAT much faster, but it sounds intentional, more than a slight speed difference between reel to reel machines. Do you think it's worth mentioning in the database which ones have the faster speed?

They sound like the same mix although the EQ is different, the 2:48 labeled copy has a richer bottom end than the 2:51 copy does. But both fall in line with
Pat's length rules so I don't know if it's worth noting. Edited by Bill Cahill |
