The Naked Eyes song "Promises, Promises" runs about 10 seconds longer on the Living In Oblivion compilation. Anyone know if this is a longer fade, remix, etc.?

the commercial 45 runs 3:43 and is identical to the version from the cd
EMI 27226 Very Best Of as far as the cd EMI 32694 Living In Oblivion - The 80's Greatest Hits Volume Five it runs much slower and fades out 0:07 earlier and that is the reason for the time differential...of 0:15 the 45 is noticably faster than that cd version.... also...the 45's face states the run time as 3:50 but actually runs 3:43.... I should mention that the LP version time is incorrect also as it really runs (4:26) not (4:36) as stated on the record label.

According to my copy of the Naked Eyes Very Best of CD (EMI 27226), the 4:26 version of "Promises, Promises" appears on Track 20. The CD label and paper tray insert states this is the "U.K. version". So does this mean the "U.K. version" is identical to the U.S. LP version?

I believe the UK LP version is not the same as the US LP
version. In Dec. 2012 the UK label Cherry Red released an expanded version of the Burning Bridges LP (that was the name of the duo’s debut album in England). The CD has a total of 18 tracks (including six bonus cuts). This reissue uses the UK LP version of "Promises, Promises" (track 12 on the disc) plus three more versions of the song including the US 7" remix (which was the hit version) at the correct speed and length. "Promises Promises" on the UK LP version "Burning Bridges" runs 4:26.
The US pressing "Naked Eyes" self titled vinyl LP runs 3:42, has the listed time "3:45" on the LP record label. (EMI America ST-17089) The US vinyl LP version is the same as the commercial 45 version. (EMI America B-8170) --abagon |

This is very strange Abagon as there must be two different pressings of the "Naked Eyes" LP. I have a promo copy with matrix number ST 2-17089 P1 and as stated above Promises Promises runs (4:26) with a printed time of (4:36). Anyone else have a copy of this vinyl LP that can chime in here?

The matrix number of my commercial vinyl LP is "ST 2-17089 P5" on the Side 2.

Looks like the later US LP release replaced both "Promises,
Promises" (with the shorter 7" remix) and "Always Something There To Remind Me" (with the "drums" intro). |
