In keeping with this topic, has anyone noticed that the 45 version of Bachman-Turner Overdrive – Let It Ride runs faster than its LP counterpart? The version on the Best Of B.T.O. (So Far) CD (Canada) runs 3:30 as does the version indicated as 45 version in the database (on Ultimate Rock ‘n'Roll Collection). Does this match the 45, which is indicated as running 3:33? Or are these CD appearance fast? Please!

My edited 45 runs 3:33...same speed as the long LP version.

thanks Grant.

So Pat, could you check the speed on "Ultimate Rock ‘n'Roll Collection". If it is fast (since it runs only 3:30), then the 45 version of "Let It Ride" is not on a U.S. CD (maybe the Cdn 45 did run fast...anyone know?).

That Canadian CD timing of 3:33 is the exact same timing of the U.S. edited 45. I can tell you that the U.S. CDs and vinyl LPs all use the longer LP version. For them to cram the LP length into 3:33 would make the song waaay too fast. So, my guess is that the Canadian Best Of indeed has the 45 edit.

I don't think that's the issue, Grant. The edit does appear on two CDs (one U.S. issue and one Canadian), but both run faster by three seconds than the 45 (if you're saying that the pitch/speed of your 45 matches the pitch/speed of the LP). We're not cramming the LP length to match the 45.

Personally, even with the speed difference, I'd still call it the 45 version unless the edit is wrong.

Did anyone pull out the stopwatch? Three seconds difference means to me that they calculated the dead space into one of them, or that the listed timing is plain wrong somewhere, because .03 seconds would make a significant difference in pitch.

You got it right, Doug.

To reiterate, it is not dead space and not cramming the LP version. The version I have on the Cdn Best of CD runs faster that the LP version (but it has the same edit as the 45). I can tell instantly just by listening, and because it ends at 3:30 (not 3:33).

And to me if the speed is faster than the original 45, I'd call it (45 edit, too fast!).

Grant, I don't understand. You mentioned in your last post you'd hunt down a U.S. 45, but in your second post, you mentioned your edited 45 runs 3:33...

What I have is a copy of the 45 that I once used to create that 45 edit from CD. I'm now thinking that there may ne some kind of difference between that copy and the original source.
