Although not in the database, this song peaked at #39 in Billboard, in 9/80. My commercial 45, confirmed as MCA 41293, has a listed time of (4:44) and an actual time of (4:42). Although still apparently in print on CD as an import, the U.S. issue of his "21 At 33" CD (MCA 31054) is out-of-print. Nonetheless, this CD does contain the same (4:42) version of the song as appears on the 45.

IIRC, this had an alternate title "Sartorial Eloquence" on the album.
For some reason, this one was left off of his "To Be Continued" box set. I realize it wasn't much of a hit, but other low-charting songs from the era like "Ego" or "Chloe" were included. |

I only ever called the song "Sartorial Eloquence" on the air, probably because that was shorter. The 45's official title was "(Sartorial Eloquence) DON'T YA WANNA PLAY THIS GAME NO MORE?"
It was fun to segue the song with Simon & Garfunkel's "A Simple Desultory Philippic (Or How I Was Robert McNamara'd Into Submission)". Back-annoucing the titles seemed to take nearly as long as playing the set. :) |

It's a good thing "Ego" (and for that matter, "Step Into Christmas") were included on the box set, because they were never on an LP, and never on any other CD except this. As far as the box set, I was surprised at how many top 40 hits were missing - "Sartorial Eloquence", "Part Time Love" and quite a few others as I recall. But at least, most of these could be found on other CDs.

Actually, Step Into Christmas was available several years before that, in the mid-80s, on his "Lady Samantha" import CD, along with its much more obscure B-side, Ho Ho Ho (Who'd Be a Turkey at Christmas). The song Friends also made its CD debut on that disc. And of course, Step Into Christmas has appeared many times on CD in the intervening years. |

I keep wondering when, if ever, Elton John plans to release a box set comprised of ALL his chart singles. He'd easily be able to fill at least four discs on this concept alone. (Not to mention, chart completists would certainly appreciate not having to buy at least 15 individuals CDs to get all the hits!)

What I'd really like to see, Todd, is him release the rest of his non-LP B-sides. Most of the remasters of his albums contained the B-sides as bonus tracks. For some reason, Blue Moves, 21 at 33, Jump Up, and Breaking Hearts did not. So there's this whole period, from 1980-1985, where we're missing eight or so B-sides on CD.
I was glad a while back to find Snow Queen, the B-side of Don't Go Breaking My Heart, on a UK Reader's Digest Christmas compilation, though it fades out about five seconds before the single does. Edited by Brian W. |
