Is there some particular reason this re-charted on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1968 a year after it hit #1 in 1967? I doubt the reason was because of Jose Feliciano's cover of it being popular.

Favorite two expressions to live by on this board: "You can't download vinyl" and "Not everything is available on CD."

It's my understanding that's EXACTLY the reason. Jose's version was a pretty big hit in its own right. |

I was under the impression it was done to see
how it would do against the remake, to see if any interest in the original could be stirred up again. After all, "The Twist" was #1 in two separate runs over a year apart, so maybe Elektra Records was hoping for that kind of situation with "Light My Fire". And then years later in 1976, you had the original 1967 version of "Ode To Billy Joe" re-charting alongside a newly recorded version by Bobbie Gentry. Don't know if that was done for competitive purposes, but I guess some people might see it that way. |
